A Midsummer Nights Dream

Sat, May 19

Vancouver Playhouse, 600 Hamilton St, Vancouver, BC V6B 2P1, Canada map

Perfect forfamilies and children of all ages, Coastal City Ballet’s full-length version ofthe adventurous tale features lavish sets, spritely costumes, and FelixMendelssohn’s utterly enchanting score. The ballet will be brought to life bythe members of Coastal City Ballet, as well as local dance students fromthroughout the Lower Mainland who auditioned for the opportunity to dancealongside aspiring dance artists.

The ballet’sstory is one of magic, mischief, and mistaken identities. Two sets of lovershave fled the city for the forest where they become entangled in a lover’squarrel between the Fairy King and Queen. Matters swiftly become morecomplicated with the introduction of the incorrigible Puck, a haphazardlyapplied love potion, and a crew of rough craftsmen attempting to rehearse aplay. In the end, naturally, love conquers all and each character enjoys theirhappy ending.

To create the playful, magical work, CoastalCity Ballet has commissioned Irene Schneider, former Artistic Director of Germany’sMagdeburg Ballet. Schneider previously worked with Coastal City Ballet when sheset last season’s production of Giselle and 2016’s production of Swan Lake tosold out audiences.
